Disneyland Paris
Disneyland Paris is an amusement park based to the east of Paris. The complex is a self-contained collection of theme parks, hotels, shops and other attractions. Travel to the resort can be made by Flying into one of the two Paris airports and then taking a dedicated bus/coach direct to the resort or via Ferry. Alternatively, my personal favourite is to take the Train. Why? Well, other than not having to drive, being able to stretch your legs out or even go for a walk - the train station is situated right in the heart of the Disneyland Resort, adjacent to the actual main gates and main hotel. Bliss!
Disneyland Resort Paris Theme Park
To be precise, Disneyland Paris actually has two resorts plus seven Disney-owned hotels. The park opened in 1992 and was only the second Disney resort to open outside the US - Tokyo Disney Resort being the first. There were believed to be almost 15 million visitors in 2007, making it one of Europe’s leading theme parks.
A second theme park, Walt Disney Studios Park, was opened in 2002.
Disneyland Paris Hotels
The resort has seven Disney owned hotels. The Disneyland Hotel is situated immediately adjacent to the main entrance, in fact, it’s actually built over it so you can’t get any closer than that! It is by far the most prestigious hotel and as such is the most expensive.
The Hotel New York is situated alongside Lake Disney, as are Disney’s Newport Bay Club and Disney’s Sequoia Lodge. Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne and the Hotel Santa Fe are located nearby. Disney’s Davy Crockett Ranch is located in a woodland area outside the resort perimeter.
Disneyland Paris Rides
Space Mountain (Discoveryland) is probably one of the best-known Disney rides. The version in Disneyland Paris is certainly challenging, probably more because the system is old and worn. Recently Space Mountain 2 was opened, an updated version of the old ride. The ride is tough and harsh and evokes strong reactions - some love it, some hate it. Fastpass available. Height restriction (1.40m).
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (Walt Disney Studios Park) is the same as the Disney California Adventure version. Fastpass highly recommended.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril (Adventureland) is a nice ride but does have a loop and there is a height requirement.
Big Thunder Mountain (Frontierland) is one of the better rides in Disneyland. Enjoyable but incredibly busy so fastpass is a must. Post-ride photo available.
Rock n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith (Walt Disney Studio Park) is probably the coolest ride in Disneyland Paris. The design (sound studio) is excellent, the acceleration awesome, the mixed Aerosmith music and “concert ambiente” of this in-doors rollercoaster contribute to the experience. Highly recommended. Wait until during the stunt show as this empties the park, then go on for little or even no queue!
Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast (Discoveryland) is an interactive ride which gives you a ‘laser pistol’ with which to fire at targets, earning points that are totted up as you go along.
Pirates of the Caribbean (Adventureland) is one of the best known Disney rides. It’s a water ride with a piracy theme.
Star Tours (Discoveryland) is a Star Wars themed tour. It can get quite busy so get a fastpass.
Crush’s Coaster (Walt Disney Studio Park) is a fun roller coaster, mostly in the dark, themed on ‘Finding Nemo’. Height restriction (1.02m). No Fastpass available so expect long queues.
FastPass
This is a must. You need to plan your day a bit so may not be suitable for you free-living sorts but for those of us who hate queues, it’s essential. A FastPass ticket allows you to bypass the queue at a pre-determined time. Even when the park is only moderately crowded, it’s a good idea to get fast passes for popular rides early (Big Thunder Mountain and Indiana Jones for example). FastPass isn’t available for all rides.
