FIFA Football World Cup 2014

The FIFA Football World Cup is the most coveted title in football and one of the most popular international tournaments in the world. Hundreds of thousands of spectators travel thousands of miles to witness the spectacle whilst millions more watch it on TV. Passion runs high as patriotism musters fans across the world into action and motivates players into the best performances of their lives. The popularity of the contest is evident from the fact that nearly 200 teams attempt to qualify. Ultimately though, only 32 make it to the finals to battle it out to become World Cup Champions and join the ranks of football’s greatest. This really is the beautiful game, and in 2014 it will be given a beautiful home in Brazil.

The 2006 world cup was held in Germany and was won by Italy. Typical of FIFA Football World Cups, it was a resounding success and was praised by FIFA for its organisation and spirit. Before people even begin to think about the 2014 world cup in Brazil, there is still the 2010 world cup in South Africa to consider. Incidentally this is also the first ever tournament to be held in Africa, so the hosts are bound to want to impress. Brazil will undoubtedly have a hard act to follow, but they are more than up to the challenge.

Brazil have been crowned champions five times, more than any other nation. They are also the only nation to have played in every one of the 18 world cups held so far. However they did not win the last time they hosted in 1950 when they were defeated by Uruguay in a loss that shook the country. The wounds have still not healed from that loss, and in 2014 Brazil will be looking to put their demons to rest.

As the South American capital of football, Brazil is the perfect venue for the world cup. Its people truly love football – indeed it is like a religion to them. In July 2014 it will open its doors for the second time to the world’s finest players and fans. If it is anything like the first time, when 200,000 fans crammed into the massive Maracana Stadium for the final, it will be the best world cup yet. For 2014, Brazil will be drawing upon its recent experiences of hosting the Pan American Games, the Beach Soccer World Cups of 2005, 2006 and 2007, and the Club World Cup in 2000. This experience will put it in good stead to cope with the demands of housing the world’s greatest football spectacle. Furthermore it has plans to redesign many of its stadiums, including the aforementioned Maracana stadium, in order to hold a greater number of fans. A selection of 12 of Brazil’s best cities will be chosen to host the matches, but no matter where the games are played the level of support and professionalism that Brazil provides will be second to none, such is their love of the game.

As with previous world cups, ticket allocation will be done in stages so that people do not miss out. The majority of tickets will be given to real fans, with many also going to travel agencies who then sell them on as part of package holiday deals. With freetickets.org.uk we can keep you posted on all of these various online ticketing vendors, pointing you towards the official sites rather than unofficial vendors such as online auctions through which tickets can be rendered void.

The best way to get a sense of the prices of these tickets is to look at current prices for the FIFA Football World Cup in South Africa 2010, given in $US. Seats range in price from between $80 and $600 depending on the stage of the tournament and the quality of the seat one wishes to buy. For the final, the cheapest seats are $400 and the most expensive are a whopping $900. However, there are concession prices available that reduce the cost somewhat. There are also ‘Team Specific Tickets’ that allow you to follow your team throughout the tournament with significant savings compared to buying each ticket individually. While prices at the 2014 World Cup will definitely vary from the South African prices, these can be taken as rough guidelines.
